But what is a friend?

To be friendly and polite to people?
Or to be closely intertwined with them?

People can have a lot of acquaintances and very few friends. All depends on your perspective. And on a person.

Calmsoul - Fair enough. But the word 'friend' gets used very loosely. Not everyone we call a friend is really a friend, sometimes they are friendly acquaintances.
