I Love Christmas
Memories of Christmas
I arrive at the white house where I grew up into the driveway. Feeling nostalgic and with tears in my eyes. I was reminded of those years when Mama was well and things were so much better in our lives. The sparkle of brilliant Christmas lights were adorning the tall pine trees at the front of the house.
Rudolph's glowing red nose looking so adorable as he stands vigilant near the front porch. The scent of pine as I walk through the front door. The delicious spicy aroma of my Mother's homemade gumdrop loaf and apple pies permeates the air. The mistletoe is hung near the landing just above the large archway.
The sound of my sisters laughter as they sit all comfy in the living ropm. Mother beaming and smiling as she watches me walk in to join everyone. Coming to kiss me and give me a warm loving hug. The sisters jump up to circle around, surrounding me with their love and laughter. My oldest sister telling me I remind her of Dad and looks about to cry. I hug her tightly and whisper in her ear that I really miss him to.
We compliment each other,giggling a little and then go get a coffee or tea in our Mama's aromatic kitchen. The place where many a family gathering was held and memories of past Christmas timed and holidays are so very poignant.
I just remembered thinking at the time if only Dad were here to make us laugh. That handsome face and him flashing us that brilliant white tooth smile and envisioing those vivid ocean blue eyes.
It's those memories of the Christmas times with my family that what make me realize how important they truly are. The sharing of warmth and that joy are all that matters. It's not about presents or all the commercialized aspects of the season . The greatest gift of all is to bask in the love of family and good friends. To remember why we truly celebrate Christmas.
