How do people do it? Like this Christmas isn't about gift giving in my family its about getting together and shareing a few feasts

Nobody in my family can afford to buy everyone gifts sure we get a few gifts that are from the heart but we could just not afford to get everyone in the family gifts...Im talking about my aunts and uncles and stuff...I could only get my own children a couple of gifts each...It's not like the old days when we had a Christmas tree filled with gifts....We don't even put up a tree because a live tree is a burden.......How do you handle the financial burden of the holidays? How do you afford it?

I like to think Christmas is about family and close friends being together. These are the memories that we cherish when we reflect back. We haven't exchanged gifts amongst the adults in a few years and just get gifts for the children. This reduces the stress of holiday shopping and seems to make the holidays more about being with our loved ones rather than shopping.

Years ago I worked at a toy store, through my teens. Alot of the seasonal people were parents that would work maybe 2 or 3 nights and get a discount on purchases. Just an idea maybe for next year? I know how tiring it is to have kids but its only a month or two.
