I Love Halloween

There is so much I love about it. The pumpkins of all sizes, Jack O'Lanterns blazing in the night with smiles both happy and scary, front porches decked out in cobwebs and bats and spiders, mock tombstones in front yards and safaris to real graveyards in the dark with guides telling stories of the ghosts who still walk there, costume parties and masquerade balls, cakes and cookies made to look like ghouls and monsters, dressing up for one night to be someone or something else ( and just maybe an extension of who or what you really are or would like to be), candy and chocolates of all kinds in glass bowls by the door, kids having the time of their life searching through their loot to pick out their favorites....
And through it all there is a positive message, should you care to look through the thick haze of fun: That death is part of the great circle of life. It's not to be feared, but accepted as natural as anything else we experience in this world. And no matter what religion or belief system the one common denominator is that life continues after death in one fashion or another. Death ends one cycle and another begins. Halloween, in its own fashion, puts that into a celebratory mood.
