Is Bo Bergdahl a Hero or a Traitor

Bergdahl was just released from captivity based on a "prisoner swap," with the Taliban. As a "POW" for the last five years, our initial inclination is to consider him a hero. However, "Rolling Stone reported in 2012 Bergdahl had become disillusioned with the U.S. war effort and told his parents: "The future is too good to waste on lies. And life is way too short to care for the damnation of others, as well as to spend it helping fools with their ideas that are wrong. I have seen their ideas and I am ashamed to even be American. The horror of the self-righteous arrogance that they thrive in. It is all revolting." Members of his platoon said ""Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him."What do you think?

One of his former comrades is saying the Taliban got a lot better with its IEDs after Bergdahl deserted and that there was real intelligence suggesting Bergdahl was collaborating. I haven't followed Bergdahl closely for all these years, but I know I heard a long time ago that he was not captured in battle but left on his own accord.

I think young Bergdahl is the kind of American that Obama prefers. Obama spent his life around people who loathe America. He's more comfortable with them than with patriots.

I'm sure that the Taliban didn't do a beheading video with him because they figured Obama would do a deal with them.

This story is certainly morphing in ways I did not expect. There seems to be a great deal of first and second-hand testimony as to how Bergdahl acted prior to, during, and after his desertion. The true possibility of treason has now been put out there based on some information that Bergdahl may have aided the enemy directly in the improvement of their IEDs, directly resulting in the deaths of American military personnel.

I agree with what you said about the president's attitudes towards people who hate America and those who love America. Time and time again he has shown himself to sympathize with Muslims, Islamists, and Islamist organizations -- while simultaneously killing them with drone strokes. The man is a badly conflicted narcissist whose only concern is how he is seen and remembered. Its all about his legacy now.

Fortunately, in a sick kind of way, President Obama and his administration are terribly inept and totally oblivious to the sentiments of normal Americans. It seems to me that President Obama sees the universe as nothing more than a Zero-summ Game, without gradations or nuance. He is like someone who is color-blind looking at a Matisse or someone who is tone-deaf listening to Bach.

Finally, isn't it strange that Bergdahl is the only American captive of the Taliban to have been imprisoned and whose life was spared by his captors?

I hear that Obama visibly smiled when Bergdahl's father recited a Muslim prayer or chant at the Rose Garden ceremony. The people who have been saying Obama is a Muslim seem less and less unreasonable to me all the time.
