Well, the vowels associated with the yod, he, waw, he were pronounced different than what they are today in ascribing the tetragrammaton. In early scrolls the YHVH was never written, instead there would just be a blank space. Even today, many orthodox Jews do not write GOD but G_D.

@Wraithorn Well, the signs themselves in Hebrew are extrey interesting. The 'yod' means 'potential manifestation', the 'he', 'a knot which unites or a point which separates nothingness and being.the waw, 'life-abstract being.

@EugenieLaBorgia The Hebrew language seems capable then of cramming a whole lot of meaning into one word.
I've read some things by people who disagree properly on certain translations. Once I read what looked like a thesis by a man Michael Heiser who shows what he says are intentional mistranslations from Hebrew to English and Greek in the bible. The reason : the protection of the belief in monotheism.

@Silverwings I can't watch video today I'm afraid. I did read a bit about that though and it seems like a theory created to try and explain how the flood happened.
