Which book should I introduce to my friend to get him hooked on books?

I plan to visit my friend next summer (he's from Poland), and he claims books are one of the worst things in existence. He told me he just got done reading this horrible book from school, and plans on never reading again. XD

I'd like to prove him wrong. Prove to him how books are actually worth your time. I have quite a collection of books since I'm a book lover. When I go to visit him in Poland next summer, I'd like to introduce him to one or two books. Which books do you think would get him hooked?

I was thinking on introducing him to the Outsiders by S. E. Hinton, or To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Nothing too complicated, and extremely engaging. I'd love to introduce him to A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, but that would mean giving up my books (this series is my favorite). I mean, I love the outsiders and To Kill a Mockingbird, too, but those are easy to come by (a series of unfortunate events is a 13 book series... A little expensive for me as a teenager)...

As far as a language barrier goes, there really isn't any problem (he knows English extremely well).

I'd suggest "Brave New World." Tell him a book is better than a movie because you can imagine how you want things to look, not how producers portray it. Also, reading keeps your brain active, which helps stave off dementia and Alzheimer's.

Why are you friends with someone who doesn't read books is the better question here..
