Because sometimes doing stupid, destructive patterns over and over again gets you something that you unconsciously want.

@nihiless: bullies want to hurt a parent who hurt them, so they go around hurting people for no reason because it satiates that desire. Some people want to avoid taking responsibility for their lives, so they sabotage everything that might give them the strength to build themselves up. We all have sick, stupid things that we consciously or unconsciously want. So we make the same mistake again and again, because on some level it's not really a mistake, not in terms of our deeper intentions.

Perhaps collectively it is from seeing so many angles to it, the focus is blurred through a relativism that might go by another name which is much lauded and thus prevents the needed learning from happening, supplanting it with other learnings to make it look like something really good and positive.
