Would you accept this as a genuine compliment or snarky?

Another adult person of the same gender greets you "Hey, pretty girl/(handsome guy)".
I’d just say ty. It’s what comes after that makes it better or bad.
I do this as well, but in the back of my mind can't help but wonder if it's backhanded, particularly if I know the woman to be an avid gossiper.@DarkHeaven
@AnonymouslyYours I never care about that. If they’re talking behind my back, at least I don’t have to listen. People either like me or not, and either way... I could give a fuck. lol

I say that to my cat but would never say that to a person.haha.
I thought I was the only one who sensed a peppering of condescension in the phrase, lol.@Butterflykisses24

Be awkard at the very least
I feel this too! I say thanks...but I just find it strange...like why comment on my looks at all.

I stopped complimenting weight loss for this exact reason: what anyone else chooses to do with his or her body is no business of mine and because it simply shouldn't matter to others.

We should not perpetuate assigning value to someone based on what they look like. @anxietyme

If I didn't know them well it's a bit weird.

I would take it as a compliment and say thank you
Starchild1983 · 41-45, F
