What’s the longest time someone you knew or know has been isolated due to addiction of substance abuse ?

A person I used to know. I never believed in judgements. I was his only friend outside of his substance-abuse circle.
He had been abandoned by his family too. For 6 years. I don't know what happened to him. Last time I met him, his health was seriously deteriorating and he was severely cachexic. I knew it was cancer. He said he's gonna get diagnosed soon. He wanted to die. I abandoned him too after a very traumatic experience.
Some people a year or so later kept calling on my number, I never picked up. He had wanted to talk to me.
He tried reaching out via a friend of mine as well. She blocked him too on my request. I think he wanted to tell me he's dying.

I think he's not even alive now.

Yep just found out my bf sister was. She was isolating herself at times because she was hiding it until she tried to kill herself and then it was brought out.

How do you cope @cali22bp

@Guitarist07 I just talk with her and find out her feelings and why she turned to drugs and what other feelings she was going through and found out a lot of problems she was ignoring and keeping buried that affected her and a whole lot more. But we keep in mind she wasn't doing it because she hates us and being around us but hates herself and doesnt think she deserves better. Everyday is a struggle for both her and us but we get through it day by day and try to laugh in the moments of sadness. I also dont talk dont to her and make her feel bad for hurting in silence and abusing the drugs because that will make her feel worse but instead I tell her what own your mistakes and past and dont hide from it or pretend it didn't happen because lies will eat at you

@cali22bp at least you get that..... they disconnect themselves from the world and come back when sober and then do it again

My sister isolated herself from me for the last 6 months of her life due to a heroin addiction.

Damn ... how did you cope?! My last bf just isolated him self I knew he was stoned. Just not sure what drug it is @Phillyphan78

@Guitarist07 it was rough the first few months. I work with drug addicts and I didn't even see it in my own sister so there was much guilt. I just recognized she had a problem. Went through and still am going through my own grieving process 2 years later. It's difficult at times because all I want to do is talk to her again.

@Phillyphan78 wait did she pass?
Not a substance but isolated due to mental illness. 10 years.
