How do people enjoy gambling so much?

They had the company party at a casino and gave us spending money.

Lost it all but while playing the machines, I was astounded by the amount of money being spent and how quickly it left!

I don't see how gamble maniacs do it! It gave me anxiety losing and it wasn't even my money. Lol

Not to mention my throat started to get irritated by all the cigarette smoke. I had fun but I couldn't gamble every week like some do. It's crazy to me

ditto!

it’s crazy how people get addicted to it. i think maybe it’s for people who like adrenaline, but don’t want to expend physical energy.

@pentacorn or don't know how to. I have a relative who is overcoming a gambling addiction. She is a successful business owner which is the crazy thing.

thanks for ba, @Still4him 🙂

i have an ex who stole $ from me, forged my signature, and emptied his mother’s savings account. i was astounded, because i thought that only happened with junkies. and i guess i was right, actually. it’s sad.

gambling is indeed a disease--today's gamers suffer the same malady

@BiasForAction very true!!

I saw a documentary about slot machines. They're meant to have a return of 90% of what people put in. That's what the first slot machines did but now I think some machines have a return of only 15%. It's illegal but nobody is going to enforce that law because of how rich and influential casinos are.

@millennialgrandpa wow. Well but if they had a 90% return, then casinos would be losing money Right?!
VSonMe · 56-60, M
@Still4him no. It means casinos pay out 90 cents for every dollar put in. Slots are what allow billion dollar casinos to be built.

I enjoy poker, but that's more a game of skill although luck is the predominant factor in the short term. The money is secondary for me - it's the challenge of winning that I play for. I don't gamble on slots, roulette etc - I wouldn't enjoy it.

@VSonMe I can understand that. Unfortunately right after my relatives downfall she used poker in her home (no money) to deal with her addiction. It's the adrenaline. She has both. She is logical in her skills and loves the rush of getting the money. She's good but doesn't know when to stop.

@Still4him Addictive personalities have problems regardless of the game - it's the adrenaline.

@VSonMe for sure

They have their eye on the winning while the losers have their eye on the money on hand.
Its exciting. Some people are adrenaline junkies and love that kinda entertainment.
I do sports betting. I'm in the green now, and don't bet with large amounts but after a few losses it did give me an idea of how a gambler's mind works. You always have to bet once more to recoup your losses

I think it is an adrenaline rush or the idea that when they win that they are smarter than the casino. Even though it is a game of chance and random luck.
