Symphony on a French Mountain Air, Op. 25 by Vincent d'Indy (1886)

It's supposed to be very hot today, so staying inside and listening to classical music sounds like a good way to spend it.

I've always loved this piece. The main theme (supposedly based on a French folk tune) is played on the English horn in the opening bars and recurs throughout the run of the piece in different forms. It's not a piano concerto, but a symphonic work where the piano features prominently, something that's unusual (and perhaps part of why this work stands out to me so much):

Lovely. Another favourite from the same period: Chausson, Poeme de l’amour et de la mer.
