Getting little support and much disapproval for an artistic career--one where it's stunningly hard to make any kind of a living--is, I'm afraid, standard. You will run into this kind of thing from many people, starting from your own family.

If this is your passion, go for it. Get as far as you can with it. You are young and can afford the risk. Personally, I would rather fail at something I really love than succeed at what I am only tolerating or enduring. Life may eventually force you into some degree of practicality, as it did with me and many others. But you will never regret doing something you really love to the best of your ability. To pursue something you love with passion is a gift.

@greenmountaingal Why does my family do this to me?
greenmountaingal · 80-89, F
@UnlovedDaughter01 First, they don't have your passion for the theatre. Second, they know that it will likely bring you no material reward since few people can actually make a living at it. Making some kind of a living becomes more important as you get older. They just don't share your point of view. You will just have to pursue this without their understanding or support.

We only have a small time in our lives when we can truely go for "it", it being anything we consider our dreams.

Do it, take the leap, dont have a regret.

I wish your family supported you. Keep doing what makes you happy. That’s what’s important.

I can relate. I got that reaction when I wanted to be an opera singer and go to places to perform and competitions. I didn’t let it stop me.

That sucks. Maybe if you were to get into a local drama group? What does your teacher at school say? I hate it when parents put their kids down.
