Will society ever care about people who are suffering on an emotional level?

When someone is at their very rock bottom the majority of the responses they get are from people who have never experienced their pain, and that misunderstanding can lead to apathy. The reality is that mental pain can hurt so so badly in ways that not everyone can understand. The reason suicide is incomprehensible to most people is because many have never experienced the pain that would make a person want to end his or her life. Can we ever live in a world where society, as a whole, actually gives a shit about this?
