What do you think ?

So. After 28 years of waiting, the CPS are finally going to charge the police Commander in charge of policing the Liverpool v Nottingham Forest F.A cup semi-Final in 1989 with manslaughter.
An event that saw 96 Liverpool supporters die. Fans having been forcefully pushed and subsequently crushed in an area of the ground that was already at capacity, because the police didn't want to run the risk of the excess supporters possibly making trouble on the streets away from the ground.

For those of you who don't know. As a result of this event. ALL football grounds were radically altered to all-seater stadia shortly afterwards. A move that has been replicated around the world ever since.

I am curious as to how these things go.
Why the delay ? Were they waiting for senior officers to discreetly retire and emigrate or even DIE before the government and the Crown prosecution Service were actively seeking to hold someone accountable ?
Or are they doing it now because it's NOW politically expedient to do so ?

ALL those folk who gave statements. Thousands of them ! All willfully ignored !
And WORSE. The deliberate forging of accounts of what happened by investigating officers ! This is one of the charges levelled at the man in charge at the time.

Two generations on, are those who have screamed and shouted so long and so hard (Having had to attend their children's funerals ! yet still obeyed the law ! Paid their taxes ! Tried to get on with their lives !)finally going to see some sort of justice ?

I've read accounts and seen pictures of the event. It seems horrific. It happened before I was born. A difficult thing to find an authority wise enough to balance safety and security concerns, the many deaths demand someone be held accountable.

Good question. How can justice prevail when the person or people responsible are dead ?

Even if the victims living relatives are paid compensation they will be paid with tax money, their own money, anyway. That's not really justice.

hi Picklebobble2
Political expediency imho.
Sorry for your loss.
What happened was a disgrace. Good for Liverpool standing together.
Respect and best wishes

The whole 28 yr investigation has been a farce, until now hopefully some justice!

I can't get my head around it either.
It's the right thing to do. Simple
