Why do individuals want to be SO connected (ie smartphones, smart watches, etc) and was life simplier/easier before this type of connectivity?

Yes, very much so. And that technology- as well as the internet , will be the downfall of the family unit- and society, in part.

I hear of family members, where they are 3 or 4 in the same house- and they TEXT!!! Rather than actually TALK! Talk a breakdown in communication (pun intended!)

The internet and www, as it is now, is a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.

@Elandra77: LMAO at too far down the rabbit hole....as for the CD Sales and stuff... i personally think that the "download" of music on to phones is gonna kill all of it :-( because todays kids want it NOW.... they dont want to listen to a whole album to find one maybe 2 good songs..
@black4white: Well it serves those at the CD industry right! Dirty dogs! Almost overnight records - and then tapes, were gone. Not even discounted or clearance sales. All to force some crap on us no one wanted.

You are right about kids and digital- and this being an "instant access and gratification" age. Look how magazine sales have suffered- and newspapers. Why subscribe to any when one can find what they want on the internet- NOW--and not wait 30 days until next issue? That is so pathetic. Digital has created such a ripple effect on the worldwide economy. Talk to the people that lost their jobs at the pulp and paper factories as there is no longer as MUCH of a demand for it. (to the printing industry)

Then there is the issue of teens and credit cards- so they can ACCESS digital- now- that has put millions in debt and possibly bankruptcy. They outspend their means- or the mean of the parents or guardians. And not just on music, but on gaming systems as well. " I want it NOW so I will buy it NOW" Ok- but CAN you afford it? Some titles have close 80 add ones to them. They may be 99 cents to #3.99 but that adds up fast! And for what? A cheap thrill now.

Lastly, look how digital has killed the book business. The same paper folks are now in the unemployment line. I want a book in my hand- not on a hunk of plastic.

@Elandra77: I must say we see this situation as identical and i have that exact same thought process ... i cant read a screen to "study" i need a book in had to jump back and forth to mark up and then re read again and to just stare at and say..WTF..this makes no sense...now i gotta re again closer and hold it closer to my face without going blind by the monitor...hahahahahaha

I'm not so sure they do.
They just don't get much choice in the matter.

Need a new mobile ? Apple or Samsung ?
Need a new P.C. ? Mac or Microsoft ?
Need a messaging service ? Yahoo or Messenger ?
etc.

@black4white: ah but that speaks to the values of the time.
Up until the '80's most folk were born; lived and died in the same communities.
They may have moved house but were never far from the community they were raised in !
Then employers went cheap on us and decided to make employment 'dog eat dog'!
So folk moved from their environments to new places because they were chasing work/promotion and cheaper housing !

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@black4white: Doubtful. In our haste to make life easier as individuals we may have killed the very thing that made us part of a tribe !
