Do mosquitoes serve any good purposes?

Coz I wish their whole species went extinct
SteelHands · 61-69, M
Bats consume mainly mosquitoes in some areas. If they were't there, the bats might not survive. Since bats eat up the other insects that are active after sundown. That they fly at night is a survival strategy. Larger insects don't stand a chance at night because of them. So instead of having lots of mosquitoes, all the insects would probably be active at night. We would end up with tons of even larger bugs breeding at night, swarming and landing on us all day. Spreading diseases and probably wiping out the human race.

Be glad it's just a tiny mosquito and not a swarm of flys or night time wasps.

@Noahkahol: I don't get it. Bats eat other insects besides mosquitoes right? Then what makes mosquitoes become such an important nutrition for bats?

And mosquitoes carry (hazardous) diseases by the way.
SteelHands · 61-69, M
@Alex1610: Baby bats, I suspect. At lower altitudes can go through wet breeding areas like a whale scoops krill. People let standing water sit around in their yards, grow lush shrubs that hold moisture, and wonder why they have swarms of mosquitoes.

Yes they carry diseases. So do other insects. Even pets. The lowly mosquito is not the source tho.
SW-User
@Noahkahol: What ever happened to the "mosquitoes for bats advantages"? Lol. Mosquitoes are everywhere, they'll always exist no matter what.

Mosquitoes carry deadly diseases, not diseases only. Of course other creatures carry diseases too. Should they all vanish? Lol. And we're talking about the benefits of mosquitoes right?

I just realized that this debate is completely not worth it. Anyways, thanks for your informational opinion

Um... I guess they serve as food for other, more useful animals and insects.
@Madhatter: They get caught in spider webs, so the spiders grow bigger and stronger... and now have a taste for human blood. We're all doomed!
Shadowstep · 26-30, M
Actuallynot ALL mosquitoes are bad. The ones we hate are a species that suck blood but there's some that love fruits and stuff, they're a vital part of the ecosystem helping the food chain out in a big way
SW-User
@Shadowstep: Hmmm well thought out
Shadowstep · 26-30, M
@Alex1610: plus since there's so many mosquitoes scientists are working on changing their genetic code. They'll still suck blood yes BUT (and it's been tested in Florida) they are changing their genetic code for breeding. Essentially the males with the genetic code mutation mates with a normal mosquito, when the female lays eggs, the babies are born BUT they can't breed, the genetic coding prevents them from breeding and laying eggs
SW-User
@Shadowstep: That's a good plan but I think I'll probably die already before I can witness the dramatic reduction in the population of mosquitoes
okaybut · 56-60, M
Food for birds and other critters...otherwise they can can go to hell where they came from!!! 👹
SW-User
@okaybut: Now that's what I'm talking about!
I got a few new bites last night ):
@Alex1610: I'm sorry ):
Mine are getting huge from my clothes rubbing on them :s
SW-User
@AcidBurn: Lol!!! You mean they're swelling?
@Alex1610: yep. they even have lil scabs on them *sighs*
Degbeme · 70-79, M
They are part of the eco system. Other critters need them for food.
SW-User
@Degbeme: I know....
SW-User
Omg!! That's always in my prayers to God
SW-User
@Youcannotfollowme: Lol!!!!!!
SW-User
Population control. Lol
@ThePhilanthropeOtaku: EXACTLY!!!!!🙂
SW-User
@ThePhilanthropeOtaku: LOL What if you became one of their victims?
Tminus6453 · M
Agreed, ....i know other animals think they need mosquito's for food.. the whole eco-system blah blah... but i think those that eat mosquitos should just suck it up and change their diet so we dont have to suffer from their bites... die mosquitos die!👿
SW-User
@Tminus6453: Hellzz yeah!!!
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
Vital part of the eco chain, food source, even pollinators. Without mosquitos, the world would be in a much worse off condition than it is now.
SW-User
@therighttothink50: Hm how so?
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
The animal population would grow out of control and starvation would ensue. The eco system is about the supply and demand of food sources and keeping it in a balance.
SW-User
@therighttothink50: I see
JustAHappyPerson · 31-35, M
No, they won't get extinct even if the humans gone extinct.
They have survived from a long long time and still living happily.
Maybe the nature is always keeping them for some purpose we don't understand yet.
SW-User
@JustAHappyPerson: I know it's impossible for them to go extinct. And yeah..perhaps they have some mysterious benefits we're yet to discover. But right now, all I see is them flying around, sucking blood, passing diseases
adhane05 · 31-35, M
Scientists have figured how to get rid of them all. Problem is they don't know if they ought to try it or not.
SW-User
@adhane05: It might cost them lots of money and time even
adhane05 · 31-35, M
@xSharp: There's always a catch.
xSharp · 31-35, M
@adhane05: nature is as it is because of millions of years worth of adaptation, remove one piece and the house of cards falls apart. everything is food for everything else.
SW-User
None in my opinion, I'd be perfectly fine with committing a little culicide
SW-User
@hyg346: So would I!!!!!!!
DrWatson · 70-79, M
They're food for bats, and I think bats are pretty cool!

But other than that....no!
xSharp · 31-35, M
food for everything else
SW-User
@xSharp: You don't say...
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
Not to my knowledge.
SW-User
Glad you said that lol
