Why is the truth important?

The truth is often scary, unattractive, confusing, complicated, boring, unbiased, destructive, eluding, chaotic, & troublesome.

So why would we ever seek it out?
It sets you free and it is the right thing to do. Always tell the truth and you'll love yourself a lot more. And always tell yourself the truth.

If you don't search it out, you may become someones fool.
@AlmostAnAngel: That is very wise thinking.

It's reality. It's part of survival, like eating and breathing. Our chances for survival as a species and our survival as individuals depends on knowing as much of the truth as we can. That's why journalism is the noblest form of writing; journalists (or at least the good ones) risk their lives to bring us important truths. They risk their lives because there are many in power who know what so many of us forget: Knowledge is power.
I do, however, think the news media exaggerates the news way too much these days, for the sake of sensationalism. We don't get the real story sometimes. That's what I don't like. Someone who is very innocent, can be made to look like a fool or dishonest through the media. @greenmountaingal:

@LadyGrace: I didn't really want to comment on the sad, corrupted state of journalism today. The distortion of the news is certainly sometimes due to sensationalism, but it's also extremely corrupt in other, significant ways. I said that some journalists have risked their lives to attempt to bring out the truth, but I didn't want to have to say how many have lost their lives in recent years; the loss of journalists such as Dorothy Kilgallen and Gary Webb have been huge losses for us. It is very hard for a journalist these days to maintain a career while making waves in the news world.
@greenmountaingal: True. Sorry to bring out the negative side. It's a little sensitive to me, since I've witnessed it first hand, dealing with the public all my life. I've seen innocent people hurt. God bless those good/great journalists.

Because sometimes lies have the same effect, if not a worse one
