overbooking flights.Did you know?

Did you know that it's common practice for airlines to overbook flights in order to maximise their profits. This is done to make up for late cancellations. I personally have never agreed with this procedure as it's not 100% reliable. As we all have seen

Common practice does not mean it is ok. It is very high-handed, motivated by greed than anything else. I find it disturbing to use the argument that just because every other airline does it makes it acceptable. To me, this man stood his ground. He stands for all the disgruntled people who in the past who have been victims of exploitation of these big airline companies who use the fine print in their ticketing system to their advantage. Just think of flight cancellations, flight delays and the like. Who audits these big companies to ensure standards? It is big auditing companies I believe. Must be a case of 'I scratch your back, you scratch mine' then. And the losers? The paying customer. You and me.

@pete11: I am not picking a fight. Am just adding on to what you said about disagreeing with the practice which is prevalent in the industry.

Yes but also I was told there is an actual regulation that states airlines must offer $1300 vouchers to customers when they overbook flights and need volunteers. I have not yet looked into this but it would be an interesting additional nail in the coffin for United.

As well...the people who they wanted in those seats were not other paying customers but employees. So they were not getting money for them to fly.

I wonder if the 4 passengers that left/dragged out were compensated
