Stalking is what these websites are all about, Zonuss. That is 'what' makes these places so social. When we can freely 'track' or 'follow' a member throughout their postings as an option-setting within our profile, the website itself obviously encourages this brand of 'passive stalking'. That is what stalking IS, when you follow someone and track their movements everywhere they go.

But even if someone IS a serial killer, it is actually quite irrelevant if they follow me or anyone else around this website. What can a stalker do on an open forum? Idle threats perhaps, but nothing of substance or significance.

The only time what you are asking about within your question actually 'matters', is if a member gives another member their private, confidential information in the form of a Private Message. Within the context of a Private Message, nobody else knows that they are communicating that information to each other. Private Messaging platforms are completely unmonitored by the management of these social sites.

That is what happened at EP. That is why the girl involved with a subsequent 'stalking' was then murdered by another EP member, about 4-5 years ago. That is how the Police discovered 'who' the stalker was, when they discovered their male/female conversation on her computer after they had seized it in her home, which then led them to EP Head Office.

EP then had their Server seized by police as the website stayed operational, hoping to find the guy making other similar moves with other female members. When they seized her computer, they tracked her EP conversation back to the male stalker who murdered the girl when they mutually agreed to meet somewhere offline, like a coffee shop.

The Police then had access to the stalker/murderer's I.P. address from the EP database, which led Police to raid the stalker's house and to seize his computer. The relevant data was recovered from his computer and the male stalker was then arrested by Police and charged with her murder.

This is the reason why EP was subsequently shut down permanently. The shut-down had nothing to do with a lack of interest by the membership, or funding issues or poor management protocols. The reason EP was so poorly managed in the last year or so of operation, was because the Police had full control of the website, thus rendering the website un-managed per se, by the owner of the site.

The actual so-called 'site managers' or 'web-cops' did not have the ability to manage the site, which became evident when so much 'trolling' was happening and left unattended to in EP's final days.
