How did you know you were a brave person? I knew I was brave when I married a Gemini😅🤣

I discovered that, like most people, I was much stronger and braver than I thought when I faced off against a man who had kidnapped me and imprisoned me in an abandoned house. He said he would rape, torture and kill me. He held a scalpal to my throat (which he'd stolen from a hospital). He was about 6 ft. tall and muscular, a combat veteran just back from Vietnam (the year was 1968). I was a terrified 125 lb. girl, unarmed with no fighting experience unless you count all the many fights I had lost with the school bully back in grammar school. I assessed my situation and decided I had nothing to lose by fighting him. Sure I was facing the last hour of my life, I tore off my blindfold and hit him in the face and the fight was on. I lost contact with everyday reality and with time. I found I could think outside of regular time and could fit 20 min. into 2 seconds, giving me a lot of time to plan my moves. And I knocked him unconscious, to my amazement. He was still unconscious when the police arrived a half hour later.

I have never seen myself the same way since. I know I am as brave a woman as I need to be when my life is threatened.

I am not brave.
If anything I am a coward and perhaps overcautious in most things.
However, when something is necessary, I will feel the fear and do it anyway - trying as best I can to reduce or mitigate the risks.

When life presented me with choices... none of which was good. I chose the healthiest of them even though it was the most difficult choice of them all.
