What started the craze for using "z" instead of "s" to pluralise words?

Like "boyz", for example?
Language is in an ever evolving state. Sadly, in The U.S the overall vocabulary is shrinking. When you consider that it takes a word to think a thought it implies the overall intelligence in the U.S is also shrinking. This is especially evident with our so-called President.

Cuts to the education budget?
Goes way back, particularly in attempts, to write down accents, or slang.
Seen it at least as far back as the 20,,

Later, came the desire to "misbehave"
"Oh does it bother you i spell it wrong"
Ha ha ha ha

And of course the ancient one.
