what exactly happened to it?

@Plumouter The caddys with the north star engine had a lot of overheating problems. I believe they used a plastic upper intake and those were a huge mistake on the V8 as well as the 3.8 engines used in LeSabre, Bonneville, and some other 3.8 models.

Anyways, sorry to hear about it's death. After a while though, some cars fuck up faster than you can fix them.

ALSO - when shopping for a different car, check out carcomplaints.com to get an idea of what problems are typical with whatever year/make/model. My particular car, a Toyota, has oil burning problems.

@CestManan you're exactly right, that's what my uncle told me about those engines lol. And it's all good nothing lasts forever it was an 03, had a good run haha.

@Plumouter I would say replace the upper intake but if it is nickel and diming you and it overheated, well, time for a newer car.
One thing about an engine overheating, it tends to ruin a lot of the gaskets.
My room mate has a 2000 Bonneville, and I am kind of dreading the day hers craps out. I won't bore you with the list of everything I have done, just what I remember -
brake lines, front brakes, MAF, MAP, and crank sensors, radiator, alternator pulley, belt, rear shocks, probably more. OH YEAH - cabin fan, THAT one took a lot of work, contorting, and cussing

Don't hate me for saying this but I imagine GM mechanics have PLENTY of work to keep them busy.
