With cell phones and a plethora of social media how can loneliness be epidemic in the US?

The situation is probably different for different age groups but i find most people i know in real life no longer have time to meet up with anyone outside of their family, so just say, sure i'm happy to talk... on facebook later tonight, whereby they won't actually have time to have a real conversation but just say oh hey we really need to catch up sometime when i'm not so busy.

@Grateful4you Yes! cats in the cradle. The words ring true on a friendship level too. I don't blame people though, they all have their families which they are putting first which is a good thing.
@SW-User Right, I couldn't remember the name of the song. I'm just glad I haven't had that kind of regret except for my brother who had wanted to talk to me (I didn't know he was dying from AIDS) and I told him I wasn't able to see him as I was caught up in my own bad relationship. I went through a real guilt trip over that.

@Grateful4you I can understand how bad you must have felt, but you can't blame yourself if you didn't know... still, it doesn't make it any easier i know. I lost my best friend who drowned next to me in the river and i stil blame myself for not being able to save him, even though there were about 50 people watching from the bank. It can be hard moving on from these kinds of things.

I’m sure a person can feel loneliness in a room full of people, lotsa family even, if you feel your world is falling apart.
@SimplyTracie I hope you are able to come to terms with your loss, (((HUGS)))
@SimplyTracie Most welcome hon.

@Grateful4you It was awhile ago. I’m fine now. Thank you. 🤗

because technology has taken away the need to interact personably . you no longer have to communicate face to face
@HeteroDox Which is one of the reasons I'm sure, we are a social species and need human contact.

@Grateful4you hence the convenience of SW and the like

all of those sites are pointless when no one will talk to you

@Grateful4you i don't really do anything on fb, pretty much only on here trying to connect
@spikem And connecting is important, it's more than most people do. At least here you can make someone smile.

@Grateful4you i try, but it's difficult just getting people to answer, let alone enough to smile

You aren't really connecting when it's on a superficial social media level it takes a real connection to not feel alone
For everything technology gives us it takes twice as much away.
@RenaissanceMan Said a very wise man!

Because they’re not interacting directly with ppl
@MrAboo Exactly right.
@mysteryespresso Interesting point. Sleep deprivation is horrid.

Internet and social media are not real connecting with other people🙄
