how many pets is too much pets?
I want to have ideally two dogs two cats and a bunny. I know five is a lot. but i always worry that each species would be lonely without the other, im not sure about bunnies and rodents, i think they would be more fine than cats and dogs. I also like the people person cats ones that are social with people, i only have a cat now, it meows and trys to talk to me. the only people that i know with that many pets they are considered the crzy "dog or cat" people because they feel bad for whatever lost pet comes across to their home and take it in.

It is only an estimate - but the approximate cost of caring for a dog is well over $500/year and slightly less for a cat.

This assumes there are no accidents or illnesses that may run into thousands of dollars.

Let's say a bunny costs roughly as much as a cat.

If you got all five at once, you can estimate about $2500+ for the first year (food, equipment, collars, leashes, grooming tools, crates, bedding, etc) and probably around two grand a year after that - not including extra vet expenditures or the original cost of the animal (even most shelters charge around $200).

@Mamapolo2016 yea understand the cost, I also save a lot on pet food as it is. with coupons sales and other resources, I agree its pricey, I am more concerned with image.

Well - if that's a concern - what if you fall in love with someone who's allergic to animals? or have to move somewhere they won't allow animals? if you live alone, what if you break a leg and can't walk them?

On the other hand. how much do you care about the opinions of people who don't love what you love?

That's a decision only you can make. My daughter & her man currently have 2 dogs, 2 cats, four chickens and a pair of hermit crabs - and I don't think anybody thinks they're crazy - just animal crazy. @Girlyfriendcollecting

I'm not sure but I do agree with 2 of the same species. My dog died a few months ago at 17 and he did always seem happy but I wish he had someone to grow old with.

Too many pets is one more than you can care for (including vet visits, walks, food, grooming and medicines) and interact with. Different animals have different needs.

I'd say your goal is just about right and maybe that's because I had 2 dogs and 2 cats (at the moment) but the bunny got a good home.
I've got somewhat of a reputation for fostering animals so the numbers change frequently. One of the two dogs is up for adoption when I find the right forever home. I thought the chicken would be hard to place, but found the perfect person less than a mile from me.

Id ask yourself 2 things when I think about adopting more pets;
Are you thinking of traveling in the future ?
Do you rent or own your home ?

@WineandCoffee yea renting is a good thing to think about, Im planning to get them when I get a mortgage. I would own a share in an apartment.

As long as you can handle it and they are take care of, have as many as you want. When I was married,we had 7 cats, 3 dogs, a hamster, fish, iguana, and a snake
