Do you ever think people burn up their energy being outraged by things that actually don't have any affect on them, simply because they can?

Short answer, yes.

Long answer: People get upset over things like sporting events and entertainment all the time, and those things really only have an impact on people who are members of those teams or are in the entertainment industry. I think of all the people who have wasted energy being outraged over which athletes stand or kneel during a ceremony and just roll my eyes. I’ve also seen people outraged over awards ceremonies or casting decisions that have absolutely no impact on them.

Getting outraged is a short term solution to hopefully a long term goal of actually talking about difficult topics and finding actual solutions instead of the continued divisiveness.

In other words, outrage can empower, when rights are being stepped on. But it is super important to channel that energy in a healthy way that will actually create change for the better.

I think far too many people suffer from attention whore syndrome these days.

Not really. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to have empathy, even about things that are unlikely to affect you personally.
