I might get paid a lot to do nothing but it isn't enough to buy a house, i have to live with my sister rent free

I earn a decent income - definitely on the lower side of the new lower middle income but above actual average salary (read the difference between median and average). I can't afford a house, I rent.... and I'm very sure per sq foot I'm paying more than what a mortgage would be. I remember a time where landlords tried to offset their mortgage, now they want to profit on top.
