Do you see your parents as a positive influence ??

SW-User Best Comment
No I didn't. But in an ironic way they were. Because they were so negative and neglectful and abusive It made me understand at a very young age what I NEVER wanted to be. And I never was :)

Nope. I can’t even count her to be an ally.

I call the whole experience learning by contrast.

My parents were horrible people. The positive influence they had on me is that I never married or had children.

@hunkalove Same here. I was not allowed to find a mate. Was yours by choice so as not to be like them? Or did they actually actively stop you from marrying as my mother did?
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@greenmountaingal I just wasn't interested in getting married. My father worked very hard at two jobs and obviously hated his life and everyone in it. I remember being very young and thinking if that's what it's like to be a father I never want to be one.

To some degree i suppose.
Me struggling in middle-age and them struggling in old-age probably means we have more 'common enemies' these days than ever before.

Mothers an untreated schizophrenic and father is an abusive alchoholic.... sooo HELL NO
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@somethingIsuppose They say everyone provides an example for us--some good, some bad...
Fernie · F
They taught me EXACTLY what not to do
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@Fernie My mother was a HUGE negative example.

@greenmountaingal Exactly my experience!! Man...I am always stunned at the power of a parent to screw up a kid for life...leave us struggling to rid ourselves of the toxic crap they poured into us.

Thank you for my first laugh of the day!😅 My parents have been gone for a long time now. They were real characters, worthy of a movie, and sometimes I actually miss them. But, no, for the most part, they were not a positive influence in my life.

My mother, for sure: she's the kindest person I know❤
My father??? Well, let's see the glass half full: I'm a pefectionist and a hardworking person because of the high expections he had of me(glass half empty: I will never be good enough)

They are both deceased, however, I suppose they were a positive influence on me in the sense that they gave me examples of what I didn't want to be like...person, parent, spouse, friend, employee, etc. 😏

Don't remember them . But i guess dna does have some influence on who i am .
