Have you ever been to a gig and been underwhelmed by the band/artist you'd really looked forward to seeing live for the first time?

Mine was Eric Clapton at Wembley stadium in 1992. Technically peerless, but for me no stage presence at all..Ray Cooper carried him and was such a performer.

I can't say I have myself but a friend of mine was a big fan of Elvis Costello and saw him in concert a couple of decades ago and still goes on about how terrible he was.

@AliceTinker Saw him open for The Police and got a well deserved standing ovation.

@uncalled4 how did the Police gig go ?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@AliceTinker Excellent!

Yeah, several - the first of which ironically was Clapton in '75 (or early '76, I lose track) - he didnt have a lot of presence, and the sound in the outdoor concert was terribly mushy & indistinct.

Freddy mercury queen at Wembley, what a performer. And a legend, great showman,
HerKing · 61-69, M
@Nyloncapes Queen underwhelmed you?
Never had the opportunity to watch Eric Clayton live but would've thought he would be amazing live.
@HerKing
Tears in heaven is my favourite Eric Clapton. I know what you mean, I was at a Pink concert and her voice didn't wow me. She did all the acrobatic moves but the music itself was meh.

However, Adele was amazing. That lady sounds better live. She doesn't move much, but what a voice! I was wowed after her concert.
HerKing · 61-69, M
@Random1Thoughts Adele irritates me, I think she's trite..Variations on how she's been dumped/dumped him and getting over it/not getting over it.
@HerKing
I wasn't a fan, ex boyfriend brought me the ticket for our anniversary. Her vocal performance was outstanding. Singing live, she's spot on!

I saw the Metropolitan Opera on tour in 1997. I believe they performed Verdi's Rigoletto. Maybe they just had an "off" night.

Clapton is a musician. Cooper is the performer !
Ever see the stuff he did with Elton john ??
HerKing · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 The gig was a double gig with Elton John on the same day (support from Bonnie Raite and Curtis Steigers too). Elton John was incredible (Back when he could still sing). Considering he was sat playing the piano. Cooper was mesmerizing! What a bloke! I was quite surprised the first time I heard him being interviewed, he is very well spoken!
Page and Plant, I love Led Zepplin and when they toured as a duo I could not wait, it was tedious tbh.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Herking I must admit Clapton has never really done it for me, a great musician but not for me,
akindheart · 61-69, F
I love Eric Clapton. saw him many times. i always had good experiences. maybe he was on his drug years?
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
Paul McCartney at the Staples Center, early 2000s. It was fantastic! Best concert I’ve ever attended.

Jeez, I've see Clapton in concert and thought he was great. Maybe he was sick.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Herking it was best concert ever the atmosphere was unbelievable ,
HerKing · 61-69, M
@Nyloncapes It was a great day, but Clapton didn't move me.. I even though Curtis Steigers was brilliant.. But maybe that was the sax? I'm not saying I'm right in thinking that, just how I felt. It wasn't just me, my brother thought the same too but couldn't put his finger on it...We were about 25 yards from the stage..Remember the roadie telling everyone to sit down as people were coming in? LOL

Metallica :/
They got old.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I'm gonna say it....Chuck Berry. Walked out. Would have been almost a total loss, save for the hot chick in front of me.
