How come Xbox Live is filled with Argentines, Brazilians, and Chileans but here it doesn't look that way?

Are they all on Live or what? Raise your hand if you live there now and I missed you.

Apparently gaming, especially competitive gaming, is especially big in South America and they often share server clusters with North America on multiplayer games. Like much more popular than the global average.

One of my instructors in college owned a small mobile game dev studio in Brazil and said a lot of cheaply made games get done there as a result of all the interest in games making lots of budding game developers. I haven't bothered looking for the actual statistics though, so maybe he was talking out of his ass. 馃し

@UndeadPrivateer If we consider this to be true why do you think South America has the bustling game fixation?

@Jackaloftheazuresand My personal guess would be that it's because they have always had a very urban-focused culture, much like Asia which also has above average video game consumption. They have trended toward high population density throughout history, so have well-established cultural norms of living in tight quarters with others. Which is usually where you see things like board games and dice games being popular and where video games are now jumping in as another form of compact entertainment filling the same niche.
