What food is the place you live in known for?

insomniac · 61-69, M
Deep fried everything, from bacon to candy bars to Twinkies which are packaged cream-filled cakes. Is it any wonder that the typical male in the southeastern United States has diabetes and has had three heart attacks by the time he’s 50? I might be exaggerating a little about the number of heart attacks, but not by much.

@insomniac Jesus. That’s crazy. Deep fried bacon and candy? How do people who eat that live to 30?
insomniac · 61-69, M
Here in the city people tend to be educated, and they tend to take care of themselves, but people from the outlying areas really do dunk almost anything into batter and deep fry it. If they do prepare vegetables they dump a bunch of bacon or other fatty pork in with it. Really healthy, right? Oh, they eat boiled peanuts here too. I’ve never dared to try them. Where I come from seafood, especially lobster, is popular. Blueberries too. Now I bet you can guess where I come from.

Braai vleis, I'd imagine. Similar to the American version of BBQ'd meat.
lucetta12 · 36-40, F
@Andrew19EightyFive I’m not American, so I’m not sure. Is it just chucked on the bbq?

Only the best....Alberta beef ! 😎

Some would probably say it's poutine.... although I tend to think of that as more of a French-Canadian thing.

Cawl, leeks and laverbread.
Cheesecake · 61-69, M
@lucetta12 Cawl is the traditional Welsh soup or broth, made with leeks and other, usually root, vegetables and cheap cuts of lamb. Served with cubes of cheese in. Leeks are one of the emblems of Wales. Like a massive spring onion. Laverbread is a very dark, slimy seaweed found around the Welsh coast. All delicious in their own ways.
lucetta12 · 36-40, F
@Cheesecake it all sounds nice apart from cheese and lamb.
Cheesecake · 61-69, M
@lucetta12 not keen on the cawl myself - but then, I'm a Saesneg! (English). Are you vegan then?
