Warden on hunting arrest: 'some want to cheat the system'

OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - A Bear Creek man bagged a 10-point buck on Sunday, and ended up in jail for it.
Travis Schroeder, 34, was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, trespassing, and hunting without a license, according to the Outagamie County Sheriff's Office.
Schroeder is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Wisconsin DNR Warden Kyle Johnson currently has possession of the trophy buck bagged by Schroeder
"It's unfortunate, it happens every year and it takes away from those hunters that are hunting legally and ethically," Johnson says.
According to Johnson, the Outagamie County Sheriff's Office received a trespassing complaint Sunday about a group of hunters on private property near Carpenter Road, north of Shiocton.
Deputies responded and found the hunters and the trophy deer. The deputies did a background check.
Warden Johnson received a call.
"Myself and other DNR wardens were able to go in and interview the hunting party, which resulted in finding the suspect that harvested the deer with a rifle who was a felon," Johnson said.
The deer...had a rifle....and was a felon?????????? That's crazy.
