Was this fair justice?

Two years ago I was driving an icy road in North Dakota, looking thru my rear view I could see the woman busy texting on her phone, I stopped at a red light and she rear ended me. When the cop arrived, he asked to see the lady's phone, he laid it on the pavement and crushed it with his boot. Crushed to smithereens.

In court, the judge just laughed and not only sided with cop but gave her a very hefty fine. (I of course LOVED it) Do you think this fair or overkill?

The civil court case would have been glorious

I think its fair. The cop was obviously angry because he probably had seen accidents resulting in fatalities because of such carelessness.

cop had no business touching her phone.

@UserNameSW depends if it is your wife or daughter

@MasterLee doesn't matter if they are anyone's mother or sister

Cops are not the jury
Cops are not the judge

@UserNameSW correct

It certainly wasn't justice but that woman might just as easily run over a child,so an understandable injustice?

He had no right to destroy her phone.

That's a bit overkill. Insurance should cover that shit anyway

Of course it meant if she became stranded or lost she no longer had the means to call for help either. A citation or fine ? Absolutely. Destroying her property ? No.
