I tried to bring up the idea of taking a semester off of school to my dad

He's saying "It's your education, your career, your life" with that undertone of "I don't want you to do this" and he doesn't get my reasons at all.. Or at least he doesn't think they're good ones. But what it really boils down to is that right now I'm at a mental state where I don't have any motivation for school. At least at work I feel like I might be going somewhere and school just feels like I'm going towards failure. I need a break from something and it's not like I can just stop working.

If you are burned out and know you aren't going to do well then take a break. When I finished high school I was burned out and took a break which literally made my mother sick. I had academic scholarships which I did not use because I simply was tired of it.

Several friends that went on to college at that time ended up failing classes and eventually dropping out because they just wasn't ready to continue either.

When I was ready to go back to school. It was harder because I had to work full time as I went but the key was I was ready. So the 4.0 GPA continued. I know for a fact, if I had continued when I wasn't ready I would have floundered and probably failed.

It is your life and it is your decision and depending on your situation not continuing my cause a significant financial hardship. However, if you aren't ready, you simply aren't ready.
