What do you typically do during your thinking process?

Do you stare off into space while working through your thought? Do you wear a trench in the floor pacing back and forth? Talk outloud to yourself? Etc.

I'm more of a pacer that talks outloud even using hand gestures at times. I get fairly animated particularly when I'm trying to put myself in someone elses situation.

I generally prescribe to Feynman's Problem solving algorithm...

Write down the problem
Think very hard
Answer the problem

But I find it easier to break the problem down and think it through to a rhythm.

If I'm at my desk I always end up fidgeting, tap the desk, click pen tops, cup my hands and blow into them to the beat.
If people complain it's irritating I always have a pack of cards handy that I play with instead.

If it's outside I tend to walk to that beat while I'm thinking 馃

@Annab Sounds like you have figured out your way of focussing a wandering mind.

It is nearly always in the early hours of the morning for me,waking up around 4-05am and not beinbg ablke to clear my mind of whatever the lsatest bs is.I have to get up and re-read whatever letter the matter reached me by,have a coffee, think about how to procede, then, and only then,do I have any chance of returning to sleep.

@pedrohedgerow My memory isn't the greatest, but sometimes I find letting my subconscious do the work while doing some other task does the trick. Unfortunately, it can take a bit of time and it doesn't work well with schedules.

I start with jotted notes (pen and paper) and try to consider all possibility before entering the points in a text document. Then I order all of these points for continuity before attempting rough copy.

@SW-User Definately sound like someone fond of writing. Should we expect a book soon?

@isupportalexwubbels Sometimes you need to hear yourself say what your thinking. Kind of like bouncing ideas off yourself from a perspective your trying to understand.
