Myth: all confederate generals were slave owners and succesionists.

Fact: general Longstreet was a republican. And general Lee only joined the confederate army cause Virginia succeeded.

Quite right, and Lee had also been offered command of the Union Army but of course he declined because he was a Virginian.

Secessionists from the word secede.
Also i don't think that's as commonly held a misconception as you believe it is.
Further whether they all supported slavery as an institution in concept or not, they all fought and killed to support it.

That's true on the part of the north but the war was started by the south and it was started to preserve slavery. If you think otherwise read the letters of secession from each of the southern states then get back to me.

@NodandaWink the war was in fact started by the North they could have let the confederate states go quietly. But they didn't and yes the southern troops fired on ft Sumter but the union troops were the ones who refused to surrender the fort.

Lincoln stated that he would defend the territories of the United States. The South fired on the fort as opposed to simply laying siege and negotiating a surrender. That started the war. Starting hostilities starts war. Therefore the south started the war. There was and is no provision in the US Constitution for the dissolution of the union. That made the secessionists traitors. You can dress it up however you like but the reality is that it was the south that broke trust and they did it to preserve their slave economy.
We never learned that myth. It’s pretty common knowledge Robert e Lee didn’t support slavery although the confederacy as a whole did

@Insomniac100 it's more of a Longstreet fact. He was against slavery but like Lee couldn't fight against his home state
