Is central heating a luxury?

What is central heating? Is that like a furnace? I consider air conditioning to be a luxury.

@PoetryNEmotion Yes, it's like a furnace, usually connected to radiators, or hot air ducts.

It may be but I think it has pretty much become the norm.
