I think it is interesting that other persecuted groups who rise up in righteous anger and insist upon recognition are received with (eventually) sympathy and inclusion, except for the Jews.
They went to Israel because it was the only place for them TO go. A tiny plot of land surrounded by adversaries. Nobody else wanted them, not as an Israeli entity.
No, they are not perfect. Nor am I. But if I had their history, I would be MORE aggressively defensive and insistent on the sanctity of boundaries.
They do not receive approving coverage from the media, by and large, and so they do not receive approval, by and large.
They have the audacity to defend themselves, to defend their cave. Uppity.

The country has some bigoted policies, rather incongruous, considering the presence of Holocaust survivors; the settlers taking over land that had been allotted to people who were already there, even things done to other Jews, like the sterilization of Ethiopian Jewish women---not to mention the initial hesitance to even honor the law of return when applied to Falashas.
