Here, I see profiles with extraordinarily long "About me"

Do people really read that long "about me" or is it just me who wants to have a drink after read g a paragraph of it?
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
If I'm on a profile I'm looking to know what that person is about so I will read it.
helenS · 36-40, F
My "About Me" is very long, and I kindly ask people who send me a message to read it all. Instead of asking me things which are in my "About Me".
@helenS It's an absolutely delightful read and I feel that you have personified the purpose for "About me". Nice prose and even better life quotes. But if someone doesn't read it, they wouldn't understand with bombarding you with "20 questions" to get all the information that you so generously provided. Friends???
I appreciate an "About me".
When I don't see one, it's like looking at a resume of an interested job seeker for a position that I am advertising and seeing "just talk to me and ask me anything you want".
My motto is "don't message me until you've read "the about me".
Don't like long ones? don't read it.
If you expect them to just give you all our personal information,
you will be waiting a long time. I don't give any identifying information and only characteristics and common experiences that many might want to hear more about.

If you are seeking something more than getting a hook up or fantasizing about one,
more like it, you may find some gems among my comments but
to get a pic of Ms Alaine E Yes, the "about me" gives you a thumbnail. Read it or not.

Sorry but reading "About me" looks to me like don't talk to me, rather just read about me and then you get to know who I am in detail.

So instead of asking question "how many kids do you have?" you got to look at about me and the answer is 3 then, "what's your favourite song?" and these all questions till the time I would feel like we already know each other for past 25 years and we have such a good understanding now as know everything about each other.

Instead about me should be like "I can not be contained in a few words, follow my posts or talk to me to explore me more"
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
@Jackthedenials maybe that's true for you, but for some of us, we are just checking out who is stalking our profiles and preferring a little more info before answering PMs.

If I find the person interesting, I'd read their 'About Me'. If they are waffling on and on about something it might help me lose interest in the person. 😂
Thatd be me .

It's a test of character if they make it the whole way thru 👍😊
I rarely look at them. I even forget they are there.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Some actual do want to get to know others rather than pretending that know them when they really don't even want to know others at all.

Just posts on how they are currently doing doesn't mean you know anyone or anyone really knows you.

Personally the longer the About Me the better. I can gage what they are really like. Especially if they are fake. Fake users rarely ever have much of an about me to speak of. Too hard to keep their stories.

So if you really want to appear as a fake, then don't put an About Me.

Guaranteed fake alert! Especially if you don't post. Or are new!

I read them. Mine used to be long and when 8 got messages from strangers id always say....'read my about me'
Theres not much on mine now. But....other than 3 friends, nobody messages me anymore.....so its not necessary to bother putting the info out there any more
SW-User
I really don't know. But I tried my best to keep mine the longest.
I read them to understand who they are.

The about me is kinda dumb IMHO.

I don't know why a person would want any telling information about anything about them up for strangers to read. On the other hand I find it very creepy and bizarre to PM someone without getting to feel each other on the boards first.

It just seems more normal and organic to leave it blank and have people ask about me after interacting on the boards. The whole about me is just a conversation killer and creepo invite. It's like having a phone call before a visit.
