What's the best way to handle a parent who won't texting me random things?

Please don't make it seem like I'm not grateful for my parents or unappreciating of them. It's just that my dad keeps randomly texting me things that are not significant. For example, he once texting me an article about shrews. Why would I be interested in shrews? Another example is when he texted me saying that he befriended the cat across the street from his house. He also once called me to tell me about the food that he ate for dinner, and he sounded estatic. I'm not saying this because I think my dad is a bad parent. I love him so much! I miss him and I don't get to see him often because of covid restrictions. But, I just get irritated if he sends me messages about things that have little to no importance. Is it normal that I feel this way? Should I tell him about how I feel or should I just put my feelings off to the side and just deal with it?

He is trying his best to reach out to you the way he believes you'll respond (text) we as parents are in a new age where our children are becoming unreachable.

His topics may not be of interest to you, what you should be is, grateful, that you have someone who is trying desperately any way they can, to be in your life.

Your Father is just trying/wanting to be present in your life. (A true gift)

Your Dad obviously misses you and regards you as his pal ☺. When you say, "Shrews" - what do you mean? Mushrooms?lol!
Maybe your dad is stoned? and just sends "happy" texts because you're his happiness 😃☺...
Yes yes it is totally normal to feel this way. Look, in my opinion - I think you shouldn't tell him off. It might hurt his feelings... It's up to you...
@Vogue007 sorry I should've clarified. I meant shrews like the animals

I wish I had parents.
No matter what he says he's trying to be close to you.
