I left FB because they insisted years ago!!!

It's interesting. In the earlier daze of the internet, users were encouraged to protect their identities with the use of "screen names," a practice capitalized upon by AOL (that was a while ago!), and to AVOID posting personal details, etc. These daze, everybody up to and including the president is posting every little secret on social media, seeking a level of online fame to rival the pop divas and so forth. I have actually taken precautions to ensure that I cannot be identified beyond a certain point, and even so, I am sure that careful analysts would be able to utilize the word patterns and idiosyncrasies in my posts to link me with otherwise unconnected ramblings elsewhere. Still, I have no real fear that my identity would be revealed.

[@SomeAreBoojums I was in the forefront of that long before aol was promoting it. USENET was it's breeding ground! We even masked our IP addresses!

@DeWayfarer What is interesting in this high flaunting age of VPN, TLS or even the old technique of bouncing proxies all around the world, very few servers allow you to mask your IP now. Makes you wonder just how private those new techniques really are.

I'm not all that anonymous and I have felt like leaving often. What difference does it make either way?

Whats the point of anonymity if you can just easily pretend to be someone else 🤷🏻‍♀️
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
No, but I would need to be more careful about what I post.

Loss of anonymity wouldn't cause me to go.
