Can someone please explain as if they were talking to a child

Getting your account verified is a new feature that they just implemented. You submit a picture of you holding a piece of paper that has your username, the word similarworlds and todays date on it. The picture must show your face. Then, you submit a second picture of yourself that is different from one you just submitted. The second picture is meant to match the first verification picture you submitted, and this picture can also be used to compare to other pictures that you may post. The point of this is that if for some reason you lose your login information, SW will have another way of confirming who you are, so you can access your account, and secondly, this shows that the person in the pictures is truly who they say they are.

If you're insecure and/or want to date other SW members you get verified. If not- you don't bother. Simple as that.

If you verify you're "proving" to everyone that the face is yours and you're not catfishing, pretending to be someone else. Usually guys pretend to be girls or people have more than one account. Verification is trying to solve this.
