What is your immediate reaction when someone important to you says: I have something against you?

In one way or another people confront us with things they would rather not see in our lives or person. How do you deal with criticism and being confronted with possibly negative things in your life?

I usually listen what they have to say, even if this person is not someone very close to you. You always can learn. Then according to what they said, and where the person is coming from, I take action.
I'm my worst critic so I'm not gonna be shocked by a criticism.

In my life the criticism has been from narcissists who don't want to deal with their own faults and problems....easier to criticize a responsible person for being different and having different lifestyle than take care of their own crap. One put me down for having birds as pets.

@Ephemeral: She was Gas-lighting me to others I'm sure of that because it's been a pattern with her even back to our young years. She was angry because I wouldn't take her to the casino to play poker, in her mind she thought she could take a little bit of money and multiply it and make some good cash while still getting her Food Stamps and whatever.

it's uncomfortable, but I prefer it. I don't like things to fester if I have done something wrong. I also want to be able to apologize for it and understand their feelings too.
