No materialist theory of consciousness is plausible. All such theories either deny the very thing they are trying to explain, result in absurd scenarios, or end up requiring an immaterial intervention. (Eric Holloway)
No, not at all. The principle of emergence is evident in everything from the higher-level functionalities of beehives to the ability of computers to manipulate ideas on a basic level. A bunch of simple things in the right arrangement can perform highly-complex functions.
@SW-User You may have noticed I simply asked if you believe it or not. It is not my thought so attributing it to the person who came up with it is as it should be. I have no idea who Eric Holloway is or what he does when he is not sleeping. Do you?
@ElideInto lol for example? If your one of those people who are all about seeing is believing then you should do some research. I don't owe you an explanation, I'm answering a question and now your jumping up and down on me, do your own research
@MushroomFaerie I did my own research, based on scientific evidence, and you are making a claim that contradicts it. Can you actually support that claim or are you just making shit up to sound interesting?
@ElideInto lol okay where exactly does consciousness live in the brain or whatever body part? And how do you know that that is in fact where consciousness is generated? Even if you could answer that, still consciousness is not material. That and piss off, I dont care if you have a different opinion it's your attitude that's weird. Go and find something worth while to do
SW-User
I believe it. Which is why I don't subscribe to a strictly materialist view of existence.
