I’m a 23 year old still living with my dad. I appreciate his kindness for allowing me to stay and his efforts to try and guide me as best as possible but I feel like he’s too controlling of my future and lifestyle. So I’m thinking about moving out soon. What should I do financially before finding a new apartment? I know having a good credit score helps with securing a good housing opportunity. I unfortunately don’t have any credit. My financial past 3-4 years aren’t the most impressive in terms of managing my money and so I was wondering what I should do to be approved for a line of credit? Obviously good spending habits is gonna be important but how much should I save to be seen as a trustable tenant? I’m somebody who thrives in situations where I don’t really have much cushioning. My dad doesn’t understand this however. When I’m forced into a corner that’s when I excel. Playing it safe was never my style. I learn and grow more when I just throw myself into the chaos.

It's really hard for younger people to get out on their own. It pisses me off a bit because it's nice to have ur own independence. Do you work? Can you get references and the required deposit. Rent in advance? Do u intend to buy or rent? It's good you want to be independent. It's also good u seem to be doing ur homework on it to. I wish u luck with it. Your dad probably just wants the best for you. Were pains in the asses us parents at times 🙂

I'm 42 years old and I know what you mean by your parents are great for being there, but in some aspects, they want to have their say so about your life. I live with my parents and I feel like they have always treated me like I'm a kid. But just save up some money and start looking for places. Not every single place for rent is going to require a good credit score. You'll find a place eventually
