Would you rather.....

1) Know for sure that you will be happy for the rest of your life - but also know that the date of your death is exactly ten years in the future? You’re guaranteed to be happy, but you only get ten more years.

- OR -

2) Stick with the way things are - no guarantees of happiness, but an unlimited lifespan? NOTE: Unlimited doesn’t mean “immortal.” I should have said, have your normal lifespan. Whatever that is for you. And you don’t know ahead of time.

🤔

Update: what if you were already 85 years old? If you picked option #1, you’d probably come out ahead.

I don’t want to know the date of my death. What if my natural lifespan is less than ten years? I’d love to have all my dreams come true, but not with knowing when I’m going to die. I’ll go with option 2, I guess.

I think knowing the exact date of your death takes away from that happiness and I believe it's the lows that allow us to fully appreciate happiness, so it's option 2 for me.

Gotta go with 2. There is no guarantee of happiness but it is not excluded. Also the unlimited lifespan does not mean eternal. It only implies that there is not a 'drop dead' date like option one. That leaves hope for another tomorrow, another chance to learn and grow, another day to be a positive actor in the circle of life.

I think if my lifespan was unlimited I would eventually go stark raving mad.
So the 1st option it is.

Rather take my chances with option #2.

No guarantees sound awesome. I earn what I have which includes my happiness. I work at making myself better. I experience the highs, lows, joy and sorrow. The pain, failure and triumph. This sounds like the ideal human experience for me.

Happiness and unhappiness are tandem coequals with converse gradients.

Nothing said of the fate of progeny or manner of extinction?

It's a no bribery.

I don’t have an unlimited lifespan though 🤔

Have to make your own happiness.... I pick #2

2. Not knowing is the best.
