A couple of winters ago I was without power for 5 days when a tree fell on my car and power line in the middle of a snow storm. After that, I figure I can make it through a bunch. Lol.

@HeavenBesideYou Wow! I have lived more than once without heat or lights. You get through it...as you did.
HeavenBesideYou · 56-60, F
@Fernie It was something, to be sure. You’re right though, you just deal with it.
Fernie · F
@HeavenBesideYou yep, it's about accepting what we can't change I guess
We lost power for 12 hours...no lights, no technology (cell towers were down) ... my kids worst nightmare
Fernie · F
@submissivelittlewoman That's way worse than my situation!
@Fernie had it not come back on at the 12 hour mark...hot water would have become an issue - hot water tank can only survive for so long. All our food would have wasted...
Fernie · F
@submissivelittlewoman yes! I worry about that...since food is so damn expensive these days...that the food will spoil

When we lost 5 trees to the ash borers a few years ago, we lost a lot of shade. To me, every tree is a blessing.

I lived in an old country house and vines grew through the walls .. just looking for the light and heat from the fire. The pipes would freeze in winter so if you loved a coffee in the morning ( fill the kettle) and if you thought you would warm yourself up with a nice hot shower in the morning.... think again.
The beauty of the bush is amazing and tough x

My power kept going out a few winters ago so I had a generator put in my yard which runs of natural gas, and the power hasn't gone out since it was installed... A reminder I should have saved my money.

@FreeSpirit1 I think it was a good investment...anything can happen in a NY second.

Returning from DC, I realized how blessed I am for living in the mountains. Of course I do not take it for granted but it made me even more thankful for where and how I live.

When the power went out for seven hours in the dead of winter a couple of years ago. Luckily, I had a fireplace.
