You have integrity when you do the right thing because it's the right thing, not to be rewarded in some way for doing it or to avoid being punished in some way for not doing it.

But first, someone (preferably the parents) has to teach you what's the right thing.

Unfortunately, not all people agree about what's right and what's wrong.

And that's where the problems start.

Then I agree completely. If you do the right thing for the wrong reason, you're still getting it done, but does integrity come in to the equation in that case? Probably not.

Right - like you said, to stand up for something, to do the right thing, regardless of those against you, regardless of the rewards or the punishments.
