Can developing an alternative structure bring about change in society?

You betcha!
Just look what happened when Martin Luther attempted to change the structure of the Catholic church!

@ozgirl512 Often the most efficient way to change structures is through working directly with the government. But some governments and institutions will be resistant to change or slow to progress. While keeping protection in mind, creating alternative structures can enable more widespread public acceptance, even without government and societal buy in.

@SW-User I think you're right in that for two reasons ... One is that most people are just uncomfortable with change, and that change threatens existing power bases ... You have this incredibly silly situation now where more forward thinking countries are teaching ahead in renewable energy while many are mired in the coal industry and refuse to give it up

Depends on what is meant by alternative and how much time is allowed.

@Rambler In more difficult situations, empowerment and change might require a more creative response, but even in the most difficult of contexts, progress can be made if the vision is set right .

@SW-User Perhaps. I am skeptical. Short of destructive acts, real change takes decades to develop before it finally takes hold, and is different from the original vision.

It could but the powers tha be have already determined the structure.

I'd like to see an alternative to the current monetary systems. Central banks have too much control over the world. But any opposition to their agenda would be shut down almost immediately.
