Have you ever been disowned by a parent?

SW-User
Our dad left to go to another country and he made a new life and family. He never saw us again. So basically yes

@SW-User I think that is abandonment, not disowning... but it hurts the same.
SW-User
Yeah😢

Yes, by both mum and dad in 2012 when I told them I was getting a divorce. They are both very traditional and to them it was not only scandalous but outright sinful in their eyes. It hurt a great deal. At a time when I needed my family, they turned their back on me. We were estranged for approximately 8-10 months. They started talking to me at the 12 month mark. But it took about 3 years for our relationship to begin to recover.

Time is the great healer and revealer.

Yes, although it turned out to be temporary. They did it when I left my first husband. They manipulated me into getting married and they thought they could manipulate me into staying.

Its the other way around, I once disowned my parents
iMystery · M
@WildHeart I am glad to hear that.
WildHeart · 41-45, F

iMystery · M
@WildHeart Believe me, I know.

Yes by my mother more than my father , but foster homes are not as bad as most think
iMystery · M
@Wishingwellguy For what reason?
Wishingwellguy · 46-50, M
@iMystery Mother was supposedly sick in the mind , but went on to have a family 4 years later ok.
, my father was is the film and stunt industry, so traveling lot but did see him periodically
I have disowned mine
Wishingwellguy · 46-50, M
You must ha e a good reason I’m sure @IntoMeYouSee
@Wishingwellguy yes, I had.
I lost faith and trust in her. She abandoned us as a growing teen after my father abandoned us.
She was codependent on men and I resented her for her neglect.
Though I learned valuable lessons from the experience, I lacked the nurturing from a mother and protection from a father.
I have a "casual" relationship with my mother but I don't take her advice or listen to her critical banter about how I should raise my kids, live my life... etc. she had her chance and she's not going to tell me how to live mine
